New Orleans abstractionist Zona Wainwright’s new work is the culmination of her artistic practice, developed over nearly two decades of studying and teaching at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts.
These paintings are suffused with the architecture and fauna of our local environment: the fading paint and bricks of weathered buildings, the texture and shapes of broken cement, banana trees and other foliage. Observations of color on recent trips to Positano and Carcassonne inflects these views. Zona’s work is further characterized by gestural “markmaking” with charcoal, pastel, and graphite.
These works were created in her home studio on Milan Street.
